5-Day Journaling Exercise: Your Basement Box

Theme: Unpack old emotional habits, become more self-aware, and cultivate inner peace.

Newsletter: Sifting Through Old Patterns in Your Basement - Read

Day 1 – What’s in Your Box?

  • What patterns or emotional reactions keep showing up in your life, despite your best efforts to "throw them out"?

  • Think of one recurring pattern.

  • Where did it start?

  • What’s it protecting you from?

Day 2 – The Illusion of Venting

  • When was the last time you vented about someone or something?

  • How did it make you feel immediately… and how did you feel hours or days later?

  • Did it shift the situation—or just stir the dust in your box?

Day 3 – Pointing at the Mirror

  • Be radically honest: In a recent conflict or moment of emotional charge, what part of your behavior might have contributed to the result?

  • Without blame or shame—just clarity.

Day 4 – When It Comes Back

  • Think of a time when you thought you'd “fixed” a pattern—but it showed up again.

  • What triggered it?

  • How did it feel in your body?

  • What would "progress" look like, not perfection?

Day 5 – Sifting with Grace

  • If you could speak to the version of you who created these old patterns—what would you say?

  • What wisdom do you have now that you didn’t then?

  • What would it look like to be in conversation, not conflict, with that past self?
