5-Day Journaling Exercise: Why does it feel like no one understands me?

Theme: If you speak and understand your own language, how can you communicate to be better understood and understand others?

  • Day 1:

    • When was the last time you felt misunderstood?

    • What did you say or do, and how do you think the other person interpreted it differently from what you intended?

  • Day 2:

    • When do you feel most clearly understood?

    • Who was involved, and what helped make that possible?

  • Day 3:

    • Think about someone close to you. How does their way of speaking, reacting, or expressing emotion differ from yours?

    • What have you learned from their “language”?

    • What have you struggled with, and why?

  • Day 4:

    • Describe a time when a broad response like “I’m fine” or “I’m tired” didn’t really capture what you were experiencing.

    • Rewrite that moment with more depth and detail. How does it impact how you truly feel, and were received by others?

  • Day 5:

    • What patterns in your communication might be blocking deeper understanding with others?

    • How could you open your “language” to have your perception, but see their perspective, and allow for more clarity and connection?
