5-Day Journaling Exercise: Evolution, It’s Not Black and White

Day 1: Your Evolutionary Traits

  • What are 3 core traits that have stayed constant throughout your life?

  • Which ones have evolved or changed meaning as you’ve grown?

  • How have those traits both helped and hindered you?

Day 2: A Riptide - Swimming Sideways

  • Reflect on a time when you resisted your natural way of being and got caught in the resistance or overwhelmed.

  • How can you work with your nature rather than against it?

  • What might “swimming sideways” have looked like in that moment?

  • What sideways path can you take today?

Day 3: Black, White, and Everything Between

  • What personal beliefs or habits do you see as “right or wrong”?

  • Where might those be more complex than they seem?

Day 4: Grace in the Process

  • Where can you extend yourself more grace as you evolve?

  • What small signs of growth are you overlooking?

  • Write at least one affirmation about being both a work in progress and a success story.

Day 5: Your Evolving Lineage

  • What part of yourself have you mislabeled, tried to suppress, or made black and white?

  • Think back on your “evolution.” What moments mark your personal divergence — like the zebra from the horse?

  • What were the catalysts for each shift?
